One thing I have come to understand, however, is that 'doing' is more powerful than 'thinking' and certainly more powerful than talking about it!!
Like trying to steer a bike that isn't in motion, our efforts are more likely to succeed with momentum. You have to get out and 'do the stuff' you want to perfect.
I don't believe we can strategise or manipulate our careers from behind the computer screens, or even from our writing desks. Similarly, we cannot talk our dreams into existence without acting on the words and intentions which we share with others.
As creative people, the joy will be found out there 'doing' the thing we love to do. Connecting with people, singing the songs, making the art, building the relationships and paving the roads. Making the mistakes and growing in the acquired knowledge which only can come from experience.
Like learning to drive, we need to get our hours up.
There will never be 'a perfect time' to launch into your dreams. It all starts at the beginning.
Planning is important and so is putting our dreams and intentions into words in order for them to manifest in real life, but there comes a time for action where one must take the leap.
Whether it's writing a few pages of crappy, humiliating songs to get to something real and resonant, or braving your fear of performing by getting up at an open mic night and singing to total strangers. Playing to an audience made up of mum, dad and a couple of mates, or simply being bold enough to express yourself and your beliefs and ideas to the public, despite knowing not everyone will 'get it'.
Success is sown in these experiences. They are not failures. They are compost for the beautiful thing you will grow into.
Thanks for reading. I hope to see you at a gig somewhere soon.
