I am writing to you from the lovely embrace of Warburton where some friends and I have gathered to start work on the next record. The house where we have spent the last 6 days and nights is nestled snugly at the base of a waterfall and from the Northern window, looming like an enormous green tidal wave frozen time, sits the giant leafy green Mt. Donna Buang. Crested in snow and shrouded in sunlight this cold morning.
We have set up some microphones in a cosy lounge room and with its high ceilings, rounded mud-brick walls and a burning fire, we've secured the perfect space to capture the warmth and spirit of these new tunes.
I cannot wait to share them with you and I wish I could give you a release date, but a huge theme of this week has been for me to learn how to let go of things we cannot control, expectations we may or may not meet and accept that the good things in life like art, friendship, beauty and magic cannot be rushed or forced into existence.
Next week I will be heading north to join some fellow songwriters in what will be my first experience at the DAG Songwriters retreat in Nundle. Working with artists like Shane Nicholson, Kevin Bennett and Felicity Urquhart among others, has me feeling very excited.
Next month I'll be heading west to Adelaide to play a couple of shows for the first time.
I'm also stoked to have been invited to perform as a guest artist supporting the new single release from alluring Melbourne duo 'Charm of Finches'.
I will keep you all posted as this next chapter unfolds.
Best wishes and stay warm.
